NEW EU RULES
You
MUST PLAN AHEAD for your pets EU relocation
Pets entering the EU member states after
October, 2004 ..require microchip identification, Rabies
immunizations less than one year, but over thirty days, with
the microchip number recorded on the Rabies Immunization
certificate ... each of the EU member states can
elect its own rules & regulations. The timing of the "chip
identification, the Rabies immunization and the Pet Travel
Certificate" is critical.
Some helpfull advice to pet owners
.....
1. Have your veterinarian implant an ISO
11784 or 11785 readable MicroChip in your
dog and/or cat. Should your local veterinarian not have
access to the EuroChip .. AIR CLUB FOR PETS can Federal
Express the chip to you or your veternian overnight... USD
$75.00/chip + shipping and handling.
2. Have your veterinarian on the same day
of the "chipping" administer a Rabies Booster Vaccination following
the micro chip procedure .. being sure to have the microchip number
recorded on the Rabies Immunization certificate, the Rabies
certificate should be signed in an ink color other than black, by
the administering veterinarian. The veterinarian administering the
Rabies immunization must be USDA accredited.
3. For those countries whose entry
protocols require Rabies Antibody testing for entry.... Schedule a
return visit within a sufficient waiting period - 30
days - after chipping and vaccination, for the purposes of
collecting a blood sample (serum only) for a FAVN-OIE Rabies
Antibody blood test. ... the date of blood collection is referred
to as the "draw date".
4. Pet dogs and cats are eligible to enter
the European Community member states in varying periods of
time after the draw date, assuming the antibody level is reported
as above 0.5 I.U.'s. Pets entering many of the EU member states
from the USA are exempt from this process; please note, Norway, Sweden, the UK, Ireland, Northern
Ireland, do require the FAVN-OIE Rabies antibody test as
described on their web sites or in their entry
protocol
THE UNITED
KINGDOM
Pets entering the UK require micro
chip identification, a rabies vaccination, and a Rabies Antibody
Test (FAVN-OIE Rabies Serology), a minimum of 6 months prior to UK
entry to qualify for the PetPassport Scheme. The date of the
blood collection is referred to as the 'draw date'. The former and
previous six months of UK quarantine has been replaced with six
months of off-shore residence ... six months there .. or six months
at home .. or ... combinations of some here and some there ..
better known as "early release"

Japan ... plan ahead at least seven
(7) months, the rules/regulations have changed,
effective June 2005 ... and involve attention to lots of
details ...
Moving to Japan ? ... plan ahead ... the rules have
changed...... mandatory microchipping ... two rabies
immunizations thirty days apart ... and the Rabies antibody test
(FAVN-OIE) is now required. The entry protocol also involves a
40 day pre-alert to enter Japan. Consult with Air Club For
Pets experienced pet move counselors for the specifics of the
entry of pets into Japan and Okinawa.
